![]() Those changes seem to have helped with the quality/amount of sleep that I'm getting. I think Android has a similar "Digital Wellbeing" app from Google. I can't open anything else, and all notifications are silenced until the morning unless it's an incoming call from my "VIP" contacts. I use the iOS Downtime feature on my devices to lock out basically everything other than reading apps. Initially, they were set to turn red as soon as the sun went down, which was too early.Ī couple of weeks into doing that (the 5th) I also started trying to make sure that hour before going to bed is as "switched off" and relaxing as possible, which means no watching videos/movies, playing games, browsing the web, messaging friends, dealing with email etc. Hue lights arrived on the 19th and were soon configured to turn red at 21:00. Here's an example of my bad sleep regulation from a few months back when I was temporarily working from home, which meant that my hours were not fixed. I now have a consistent time that I am falling asleep - which is something I can't remember ever having before. ![]() The change after setting the Hue lights to do this was immediate for me. I thought I was just a "night owl" forced into conforming to the typical 9-5. I then usually end up forcing myself to stay up a day to "fix" it, which then starts getting later and later again. Looking over my sleep history for the past few years (I use the Sleep Cycle app for my alarm, which logs this) there's a fairly regular pattern of me trying to get things under control, and it then slipping later and later until I'm only getting a few hours of sleep. It's now 28 days after starting this, and it completely fixed my sleep regulation. If you have iOS devices (phone or tablet) you can set up a color filter that can be enabled with a triple-click of the home/power button which will also turn the screen completely red. It can optionally connect to your Hue lights to control them, but I chose not to do that, as I'd prefer that they ran on a schedule set by the hub. ![]() I use f.lux on my computer (rather than Windows 10's Night Light feature) as it turns the screen warm white in the evenings and red at the same time as the Hue lights, rather than only having an on/off setting. There is some material to read about this on the f.lux website.įor the past month I have set my lights to the lowest color temperature available in the iConnectHue app (which measures around 1950K) at sunset, fading to complete red an hour before I go to sleep. ![]() I'm not sure that there is a specific name for this, but it is known that blue light suppresses melatonin production. ![]()
